I have a couple vintage bottles of the original fragrance from Parlux from the giftset above, I think this is a beautiful fragrance, very cozy, at first spray it reminds me of Red Door by Elizabeth Arden, but better. A nice powerhouse floral fragrance for winter and sweaters. It has a lovely baked cherry pastry dough facet in the drydown which smells almost edible and reminds me of L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain. The marriage of jasmine and sandalwood are reminiscent of Samsara by Guerlain. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist!

Le Feu d'Issey Light by Issey Miyake: launched in 2000. Created by Jacques Cavallier.

Household & Personal Products Industry, 2000:

"Issey Miyake's latest scent is being billed as a fresh floral containing top notes rose essence and bergamot and middle notes of gardenia. The scent, Le Feu d'Issey Light, is markedly different from the designer's introduction of a few years ago, L'Eau d'Issey, a green floral.
L'Feu D'Issey Light complements L'Feu D'Issey in Issey Miyake's interpretation of fire. L'Feu D'Issey is the strong and intense side of fire that symbolizes passion, warmth and energy; L'Feu D'Issey Light is the sparkling and luminous side of fire embodied in its spark, according the Ms. Nicolas, of Beauty Prestige International, the manufacturer of Issey Miyake's fragrances.
Light is a sensuous, floral fragrance with top notes of rose and bergamot, middle notes of gardenia and base notes of milky amber and Gaiac wood. "Recent trends are turning around," said Ms. Nicolas. "Before, women were looking for fresh, light fragrances. Now they are looking for more sensual fragrances, such as monoflorals."

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral woody musk fragrance for women.

  • Top notes: rose, anise, mahogany, coconut, and bergamot
  • Middle notes: gardenia, rose, hortensia, caramel, milk, and jasmine
  • Base notes: white amber, cedar, vanilla, musk, sandalwood, and Gaiac wood

Ellen Betrix

Ellen Betrix was first established  as a German cosmetics brand founded in 1935 in Dreieich-Sprendlingen (Pfalz), best known for their lipsticks, nail polish and other makeup products exported worldwide.

Around 1968 or 1973, a cosmetic line for men known as Henry M. Betrix was introduced and included men's fragrances, simultaneously, the Ellen Betrix branded women's fragrances were also launched. Utilizing attractive bottles and packaging, these fragrances could be found in better stores alongside other major brands.

I believe that the Ellen Betrix company purchased LT Piver sometime after 1973 as the LT Piver company closed up shop that year. In 1984, LT Piver was resurrected and Ellen Betrix released three fragrances that were co-branded with LT Piver: Inclination, Fetiche and Mascarade.

In 1984, a licensing agreement was initiated between Hugo Boss, Laura Biagiotti & Otto Kern and some fragrances were issued under these names. A subsidiary, Eurocos, was created to handle these accounts. The first Hugo Boss fragrance, a masculine eau de toilette, was launched in Switzerland in 1985, and an independent branch was established to control this part of the company.

In 1989, Revlon purchased the Ellen Betrix company, before being traded to Proctor & Gamble in 1991, which also included the licenses for Hugo Boss & Laura Biagiotti. In 2000, Proctor & Gamble merged the Ellen Betrix line with Max Factor, and in turn created the Max Factor Betrix subdivision.

The fragrances of Ellen Betrix:
  • 1973 Henry M. Betrix
  • 1977 Number One/No. 1 (a floral fragrance)
  • 1978 Number Two/No. 2  (a fresh floral fragrance)
  • 1979 Number Six /No. 6 (an oriental fragrance)
  • 1979 Henry M. Betrix City (a woody masculine)
  • 1980 Henry M Betrix Country (a green masculine)
  • 1983 De Jour (an oriental fragrance)
  • 1983 De Soir (a fresh-woody chypre)
  • 1983 French Style (a floral-woody aldehyde)
  • 1983 Italian Style (a fresh-woody chypre)
  • 1983 Indian Style
  • 1983 Oriental Style
  • 1983 No. 6 Oriental Style
  • 1984 Henry M Betrix Party (a masculine chypre)
  • 1984 Sport+Beauty
  • 1984 Fétiche Eau de Parfum (co-branded LT Piver)
  • 1984  Mascarade Eau de Parfum (co-branded LT Piver)
  • 1984 Inclination Eau de Parfum (co-branded LT Piver)
  • 1985 Hugo Boss (in association with Eurocos, a masculine edt)
  • 1986 Dancing
  • 1986 Feeling
  • 1986 Smashing
  • 1986 Touching
  • 1988 Trance (an amber-fruity-spicy fragrance)
  • 1994 Nature - Coreana (an association with Eurocos)

  • The numbered ladies fragrances were available in parfum, eau de parfum and eau de toilette concentrations. The perfume bottles labels and stoppers were often color coded to each fragrance: No. 6 was orange, No. 2 was red, and No. 1 was blue, so if your mini bottle loses a label, you will know what perfume is inside.
  • The Henry M. Betrix men's fragrances were available in eau de toilette, eau de cologne and aftershave.
  • The "Style" fragrances: Italian, French, Oriental, and Indian were available in parfum, eau de parfum and eau de toilette.
  • The day and night fragrances: de Jour and de Soir were available in parfum and eau de toilette. The perfume bottles labels and stoppers were often color coded to each fragrance: de Jour was white and de Soir was black, so if your mini bottle loses a label or the lettering has worn off, you will know what perfume is inside.
  • The "verbal" fragrances: Dancing, Feeling, Smashing and Touching were available in eau de toilette. The perfume bottles labels and stoppers were often color coded to each fragrance: Touching was orange, Feeling was chartreuse, Dancing was jade green and Smashing was fuscha, , so if your mini bottle loses a label, you will know what perfume is inside.
  • The LT Piver fragrances: Inclination, Fetiche and Mascarade were available in parfum de toilette, eau de parfum and soap.

Inspired by the pure and light monochromatic shades from the most extreme places on the globe, the Spring 2015 collection is modern and fresh. Embodying the mighty geometric glaciers around the world and their natural color play between light and shadow, Spring is a refreshing palette.

Expressed through texture, the color focus is on white, neutrals and soft pastels. Veiled, matte and iridescent with a sculptural slant, the Arctic inspired shades complement the textures seen on the SS15 runways. The look is very natural, soft and smudged as if seen through mist. Eyes are softly sculpted by pearlescent and matte hues, with a bright mouth fresh from the fading frost of winter.

Chantecaille - Petales Roll On Perfume - 7.5 ml

Pretty, classic and glamorous. A romantic white flower fragrance.

Deliciously fresh, pretty, classic, and romantic. Pétales is a party at the Botanical Gardens on a warm summer's evening, it's an all-night dance on a Yacht off the Riviera—its essence is the white-flower elegance of a thousand gardenias, chic and couture at its heart.

iconiconThe inspiration. The story behind Pétales cannot be told without touching on Sylvie Chantecaille's deep love of Gardenias. A central ingredient in this complex and ambient white-flower fragrance, the tropical classic has long been a favorite of Sylvie's since she was a little girl. "Gardenias' unmistakable perfume always reminds me of growing up in France and long, relaxed summer evenings," Chantecaille says. In order to create a truly unique and modern interpretation of this timeless scent, Chantecaille blended Gardenia with a fragrant bouquet of other signature white flowers, including Jasmine and Tuberose, yielding a highly unusual, yet beautifully fresh and wearable scent that is the definition of pure glamour. The spirit of Pétales calls to mind warm and breezy summer parties, enchanted gardens, and the pleasures of couture dressing. "It's both completely heady and yet deliciously fresh," Chantecaille says.

The scent. Balsam, Jasmine, and Tuberose form the heart and character of Pétales, which is then lifted by the lush, voluptuously feminine Gardenia flower. Beautifully warm, soft, and sensual Cedar, Sandalwood, and the whisper of Musk deepen this velvety, fresh fragrance, giving it a thoroughly sophisticated and refined essence that is ultimately classic and unforgettable.

Parfums Lalanne was established by Charles Lalanne at 104 rue Faubourg-Saint-Honore, Paris. Charles Lalanne originally had a beauty salon located at 3 rue d'Aguesseau and established Parfums Lalanne later, probably around 1919 or so. This short-lived company produced not only perfumes, but cosmetics, perfumed soap, hair care products and toiletries before being acquired by Academié Scientifique de Beauté in 1933.

    • 1905 - Charles Lalanne Salon located at 3 rue d'Aguesseau

    • 1910 - Parfums Lalanne established at 104 rue Faubourg-Saint-Honore, Paris.
    • 1933 - Sold to Academié Scientifique de Beauté

Charles Lalanne patented several types of hair waving apparatuses, hair tinting processes, wig making and other products in the 1910s-1920s. An unusual product was a "Barrette parfumée", which sounds like it was some sort of hair barette that could be perfumed.

In the 1920s, Parfums Lalanne was imported in the USA by Hartour company of Boston, Mass., who also imported other French perfume brands such as Fioret.

CL Cotton Perfume & Extract Company, a corporation, Earlville, N. Y.

The C. L. Cotton Perfume and Extract Company was founded by Cyrus L. Cotton, a former druggist of Hamilton, NY, in 1878. In that year he began the manufacture of flavoring extracts and later added perfumes to his output.

American Soap Journal and Manufacturing Chemist, 1892:
"The CL Cotton Perfume and Extract Company of Earlville NY has been incorporated for the purpose of manufacturing perfumes, extracts, etc. The capital stock is $50,000 consisting of 500 shares of $100 each. The directors of the company are Cyrus L Cotton, Herbert C Allen, Fred E Williams, Fred C DeVallant and Henry G Greene."

The company began in Cotton's Victorian Gothic residence at 25 North Main, Earlville, NY, later moved to the brick laboratory he constructed at 25 East Main Street (now the Cornell University Regional Mastisis Laboratory).

Paint, Oil and Drug Review, Volume 25, 1898:
"The CL Cotton Perfume and Extract Company Earlville, NY held its annual meeting on the 3d inst. The following directors were elected: CL Cotton, FE Williams, FC DeVallant, HC Allen, HG Greene. At a meeting of the directors, CL Cotton was elected president and manager, FE Williams secretary and treasurer, and HG Greene vice president .The company reports that 1897 has been good year in the perfume and extract trade especially last half of it and prospects for 1898 are decidedly better than they were a year ago."

CL Cotton was also a past member of the Flavoring Extract Manufacturers Association.

    The Rome Daily Sentinel, 1905:
"Death of C. L. Cotton of Earlvllle. Cyrus L. Cotton, one of the foremost citizens of Earlville, whose death occurred Tuesday from Bright's Disease, was 65 years of age and had been a resident of Earlville for more than 40 years. Mr. Cotton went to Earlville when he was about 20 years of age, and engaged in the drug business. After disposing of his drug store he traveled for an Albany drug house, and while engaged in that capacity he conceived the Idea of starting an extract , business of his own, the large plant in Earlville is a monument to his business ability. Twelve years ago a stock company was formed to take over the private business- of Mr. Cotton, and the C.L. Cotton Perfume and Extract Company resulted, of which Mr. Cotton was president and principal stockholder. He was one of the most enterprising and loyal of citizens, and was president of the village for several years besides holding the office of post master under several administrations."

After retiring from the stage, opera star Natalina "Lina" Cavalieri ran a cosmetic salon in Paris.

Like other beauties of the stage, Lina had endorsed other brands in the early 1900s. Palmolive and Gelle Freres were two of the most well known companies that she used her celebrity status for their advantage.

Lina opened a perfume and cosmetics store in New York in 1909.

    Revue française de musique, 1908:
"Music and perfumery. M. Lina Cavalieri will open in New York a perfume store. She will not leave the theater to engage in the business of sweet odors. lnterviewed about her plans by a New York journalist,  M. Lina Cavalieri declared she is crazy about perfumes and that she started studying chemistry and that for a long time she fabricates the perfumes, the powders, and the creams herself.
She is going simply to give the public the benefit of her inventions and it is her brother who will manage the home of trade which she is going to establish. To the glory of the scene, she will add that of the laboratory, and it is certain that she will be as successful as a chemist and as artist."

The Green Book Magazine, Volume 2, 1909:
"A Perfumery Merchant. Not long ago Mlle. Lina Cavalieri opened the doors of her perfumery shop in New York City. This beautiful actress, opera singer, and dancer, had the idea in mind for some time and finally it took very pretty, tangible form in the little atelier, as the gifted Italian prefers to call it.
"I have been deluged with unsatisfactory powders and perfumes all my life," declared the actress, when interviewed in the capacity of a business woman.  "Finally, I adopted a few for my regular use; but these I make with my own hands, and they are the preparations that I am offering to the public."
It is amusing to hear Mlle. Cavalieri chattering about burners, retorts, test tubes, mixing pots, heaters, and all the rest of the laboratory paraphernalia, but she is just as much at home in the presence of these prosaic little necessaries of commerce as on the stage of a theatre where the audience is applauding her wonderful voice.  It is all very dainty, this little shop, and everything concerning it was designed by the artist herself. Mlle. Cavalieri, of course, is making no attempt to inscribe her name on the wall of fame in cold cream and grease paint; the object is to exchange perfumes and cosmetics for cold, hard cash, and the enterprising owner and proprietor is all the more to be admired for her business venture, for the reason that necessity has not forced this extra demand upon her time and energy."

In 1911 she began to write a beauty column for the French women's magazine Femina. Still a renowned beauty nearing 40 years of age, in 1914, she authored a series of articles in Hearst newspapers that were gathered together in a book, My Secrets of Beauty.

In 1920, she opened a beauty salon in Paris, Institut de Beauté and introduced a perfume named Eau de Jouvence, the water of youth. Another branch was opened in Italy to sell her beauty products and perfumes. Her shops sold various cosmetics such as lipstick, face powders, rouges, foundation, mascara and eyeshadows. Hair preparations such as brilliantine were also offered. But it was her Monna Vanna line of skincare products that she was most known for, including her various Cremes de Jour.

'Isabey Paris', author Jean-Marie Martin-Hattemberg mentions that she licensed Parfums Isabey and not only sold Isabey perfumes but developed in 1926 a range of beauty products.  It was in the same year that she introduced her own perfume, in homage to the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. - she called 'Monna Lina. The perfume was contained in a bottle designed by Julien Viard.
