Natori Body Applique by Natori: launched in 1986. Developed by IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances).

In 1986, lingerie designer Josie Natori launched her first fragrance called Body Applique. She felt that the soft, silky feel of her lingerie could be translated into bath and body products. Body Applique was the firm's first such collection. It was developed by International Flavors and Fragrances and is built around a rich floral bouquet of dewy rose petals, tropical ylang ylang blossoms, precious jasmine and lily of the valley with traces of creamy sandalwood and earthy patchouli.

Natori toured the country making personal appearances at higher end department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue to promote the fragrance line, there she met with her fans and give out signature appliques scented with Natori Eau de Parfum. A harpist and models wearing Natori loungewear accompanied the designer as she met with customers.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral fragrance for women. It is heady, rich and full toned. After testing a vintage sample on my skin, I found that it lingered long into the evening and traces of it remained the next morning.
  • Top notes: lily of the valley, citrus
  • Middle notes: jasmine, ylang ylang, rose, peony
  • Base notes: Yugoslavian oakmoss, vetiver, East Indian sandalwood, patchouli, musk, amber

Bottles:

The collection has a signature Natori applique in pastel on a distinctive black packaging design. The Parfum came in two sizes. The satin sachet pillow appliques should be placed in your lingerie drawers for they fill the drawer with the hint of a wildly, provocative feminine scent.

Body Applique was available in the following products:
  • Parfum Spray
  • 1.7 oz Eau de Parfum
  • 3.4 oz Eau de Parfum
  • 5 oz Perfumed Dusting Powder
  • 5 oz Scented Body Lotion
  • 5 oz Bathing Gel
  • 5 oz Body Soap Cakes
  • Sachet Pillow
  • Eye Rest Sleep Mask
  • 3 oz Fragrance Candles

Fate of the Fragrance:

Discontinued, possibly around 1989. The Natori signature scent was relaunched as a floral woody musk fragrance in 1994 in association with Avon Cosmetics. This too was discontinued.

This dreamy, romantic fragrance opens with top notes of pink and white peonies, freesia, fresh pink rose petals, violet from Grasse and tropical ylang ylang, heart notes of dynamic florals incorporate Turkish rose, Moroccan geranium and lily of the valley, undertones of exotic sandalwood and cedarwood are blended with vetiver and Venezuelan tonka bean to provide depth and sensuality.
  • Top notes: peony, Grasse violet, pink rose and freesia
  • Middle notes: ylang ylang, Turkish rose, Moroccan geranium, lily of the valley and orris
  • Base notes: cedar, vetiver, benzoin, musk, amber, Venezuelan tonka bean and sandalwood

A final signature Natori fragrance was reissued in 2009. This newest edition was reformulated by Caroline Sabas and classified as a floral amber fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: plum, rose and aldehydes
  • Middle notes: ylang-ylang, peony and jasmine
  • Base notes: patchouli, amber and musk
