Gigi is a feminine perfume by Gloria Guggenheim. Created by perfumer Jean-Pierre Weil of Creations Aromatiques for the American millionairess Gloria ('Gigi') Guggenheim.
It was sold at Harrods and Selfridges.
Fragrance Composition:
So what does it smell like? It is classified as a richly floral fragrance for women. Piquant herbal top notes of basil and citrus with leafy floral accents of violet, hyacinth, blackcurrant and plum deepen to an intoxicating white floral heart - narcissus, tuberose, lily of the valley and jasmine, while spicy artemisia, vanilla and musk provide a sensually aromatic undertone. The lasting impression of Gigi is a gorgeous blending of richness and elegance highlighted by a sparkling freshness, to create one of today's truly wearable and original fragrances.
- Top notes: basil, citrus, violet, blackcurrant, hyacinth, plum
- Middle notes: narcissus, tuberose, lily of the valley and jasmine
- Base notes: artemisia, vanilla and musk
Bottles:
The Gloria Guggenheim Collection includes Gigi Parfum, Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette presented in perfume bottles exclusively created for Gigi by Wedgwood, together with delicately fragranced powder and soaps. A beautiful replica 18thC French perfume bottle contains either eau de parfum or eau de toilette
Gigi was one of the first modern commercial perfumes to be produced in porcelain containers, using jasperware fluted bottles by renowned manufacturer, Wedgwood. The bottle used for the parfum splash has a metal screw cap which can be used to daub the perfume onto the skin. The bottle can also be found in pink jasperware, but it seems to be less common than the blue. The Gigi Parfum bottle was available in two sizes: the smaller bottle stands just 2.5" tall and holds 7.5ml and the taller one stands 3.5" tall and holds 15ml. The Parfum bottle has a metal stopper. The larger bottle stands 4.5" tall and has a jasperware stopper (found in either in blue or white). A gift set holding a perfume bottle and Wedgwood jasperware trinket box was also released.
The bottle used for the Eau de Parfum was fitted with an atomizer so the perfume could be sprayed onto the skin. The jasperware bottle for the Eau de Parfum stands approx. 4" (10 cms) high and the base is just 1" (2.5 cms) in diameter.
Other items such as travel perfume spray bottles and trinket boxes were produced by English enamelware manufacturer, Halcyon Days. The cylindrical travel perfume spray was available in various enameled themes and held 7.5ml of Gigi Parfum. This bottle measures 3.24" tall x 0.75" diameter and was the perfect size to carry in the handbag.
One of the trinket boxes was marked on inside of the lid with: "Thank heavens for Gigi the most beautiful perfume in the world."
The 25ml eau de toilette originally cost 40 pounds.
The perfume is contained inside a glass bottle faithfully copied from a mid-Victorian antique scent flacon, complete with gilded flip top cap accented with black enamel and a glass inner stopper with attached plastic dauber.
