Parfums de-Folet are a very obscure French perfume company who only seemed to be in operation from 1938-1941.

I believe that the outbreak of the second world war halted production and ultimately the company went bankrupt. The company only had two perfumes: Encore "Duxieme" and Jungle Night.

The perfumes of Parfums de Folet:

  • 1938 Jungle Night
  • 1940 Encore Deuxieme, presented in a hula girl figural made by Ingrid in Czechoslovakia

Jungle Night was described in a 1939 article as "Jungle Night Perfume, by De Folet of Paris. Subtle, provocative, alluring! Reminds one of the flowers of the green Cambodian jungle. Lasting fragrance and most pleasing to the discriminating. Beautifully packaged. Bottle won the Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition in 1937. Only limited amount available at wholesale price."

The bottle was designed by Julien Viard and made in France. It stands 4" tall and is made of frosted and clear glass. The frosted areas are accented with black patina.

Encore "Deuxieme" by Parfums de-Folet parfum, presented in a figural bottle made by the Ingrid company in Czechoslovakia.

The Art Deco bottle is made of frosted and clear crystal and is quite unusual. I love its theme which reminds me so much of Schiaparelli's whimsical bottle for Zut!

The stopper represents an abstract lithe female hula dancer and the base of the bottle forms her graceful skirt or dress which has fallen down past her knees and lies bunched up at her feet. She notices it has dropped as you can see that her head is tilted slightly forward as if she is looking down at it. Her arms are crossed over her waist and her hands in an attempt of modesty. Her bosom appears to be unclothed as well. She has a ruffled flower lei around her neck and a blossom in one side of her hair. The slender sculptural form is done in a heavily stylized manner, with minimalist features in what was at the time very modernistic. This beautiful bottle stands 6.5" tall.

The bottle retains most of its fragile decal label on the figural stopper reading Encore "Deuxieme" de Folet Paris New York". I believe that this was marketed as "Deuxieme" in France and "Encore" in the United States due to copyright restrictions. The perfume was launched in 1936.

According to a 1940 newspaper article, it made mention of "two new perfumes, only freed from France a few weeks ago, arriving here in time for the holidays, done up in imaginative pure crystal flacons set on a wood pedestal appliqued with iridescent Tasmanian shell flowers and covered by a clear crystal glass bell. Created and packaged by De-Folet, long in Paris, now of Hollywood."

The glass dome was a popular design used for several perfumes from the era such as Bab's Creation and Elizabeth Arden. In the ad shown above, it mentions that the bottle was available in two perfumes, most likely Encore and Jungle Night. You can print this out and keep it with your bottle.
