Senchal by Charles of the Ritz: launched in 1981.  The name is derived from a lake in India.

Undiscouraged by Revlon's 1980 lack of success with its Scoundrel, Charles of the Ritz went after the same younger market in 1981 with Senchal, using heavy advertising. Charles of the Ritz, spent $250,000 and took two and a half years to develop Senchal. Charles of the Ritz spent almost $5 million on network television in the fall of 1981 to launch its second mass market women's fragrance, Senchal.



The ad copy reads: "Senchal was designed for another type of modern woman. This woman was looking for some danger. She wants the passionate, adventurous life. She's a connoisseur of luxury. Men are part of her  life, but she'll have a meaningful relationship with whom she wants, when she wants. The world is her toy, she's queen of the jungle. She's not going to marry the boy next door!"

The Senchal line was designed for Charles Of The Ritz Group Ltd. with a look of “elegance, contemporary romanticism and sensuality.” It was designed by Charles Biondo of Charles Biondo Design Associates, lnc., New York City.

Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? It is classified as a floral oriental fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, pineapple, orange blossom, bergamot and lemon
  • Middle notes: carnation, tuberose, lilac, orris root, jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose
  • Base notes: labdanum, amber, cinnamon, musk, benzoin, vanilla, vetiver and cedar

Senchal was available in the following:

  • 1/4 oz Parfum
  • 0.6 oz Spray Cologne
  • 1.25 oz. Lasting Cologne 
  • 1.75 oz Spray Cologne
  • 6-oz Lasting Spray 
  • 1.25 oz 8-hr. Spray Cologne
