Ritz by Charles of the Ritz c1972

Ritz by Charles of the Ritz: launched in 1972. Not to be confused with the 1977 perfume Charles of the Ritz by Charles of the Ritz.


The Ritz line was housed in shiny aluminum canisters with a silver checkerboard pattern and a burgundy band. Small bottles were clear glass. The Ritz Light Perfume was housed in the same containers.

 The Charles of the Ritz by Charles of the Ritz perfume was housed in burgundy canisters.

Ritz was available in the following products:

  • 2 oz Perfume
  • 2 oz Perfume Spray
  • 2 oz Double Perfume
  • 1/4 oz Triple Perfume Pencelle
  • 4 oz Perfume Powder Spray
  • 7 oz Perfumed Dusting Powder 
  • 3 oz Perfumed Body Powder
The Perfume Pencelle worked much like a magic marker, a little sponge tip applicator inside of an aluminum tube to leave a trace of Ritz perfume on the skin.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as an intense floral chypre fragrance for women with woodsy overtones.
  • Top notes: aldehydes, bergamot
  • Middle notes: rose, lily of the valley
  • Base notes: sandalwood, amber, oakmoss, patchouli, vanilla, musk, vetiver and violet leaves


Fate of the Fragrance:


Discontinued, date unknown.

In 1976, Ritz Light Perfume was introduced.
