De Jour by Ellen Betrix: launched in 1983.

So what does it smell like? It is classified as an oriental fragrance, but it smells like a classic chypre floral to me. There are no notes published anywhere, so I am using a sample I took from the bottle to create a scent profile for you. This is very heavy on the oakmoss and galbanum, very green, some spice and citrus spiked aldehydes that tickle my nose. There is no sweetness to be found in this composition, it is dry, mossy and elegant.

  • Top notes: bergamot, geranium and aldehydes
  • Middle notes: galbanum, spices, lily of the valley, jasmine, rose
  • Base notes: patchouli, benzoin, oakmoss, labdanum, musk, ambergris, tonka bean, sandalwood, vetiver

The day and night fragrances: de Jour and de Soir were available in parfum and eau de toilette. The perfume bottles labels and stoppers were often color coded to each fragrance: de Jour was white and de Soir was black, so if your mini bottle loses a label or the lettering has worn off, you will know what perfume is inside.

De Jour has been discontinued for many years.
